'65 Mystery wire / red with green soft tip

zray

who said Beer ?
It's bundled with the harness wires that go to the rally pac clock wires. It's female end ends up where they join with the clock wiring and the male end comes out behind the instrument panel. It's all red except for the ends which are green

Can't find it in my wiring diagrams ? What's it for ? This is a reproduction under dash wiring harness.

Huh...that's very unusual. Since you have a male and female bullet with green molding, and both with red wires, they probably meet to mate and have electrical children. Probably clock power.

the clock and everything else appears to be working fine w/o the wire being hooked to anything. my car is a stripped down K code, no extras like windshield washer, two speed wipers, fog light bar etc. I think it was an all drum brake car, although it came to me with front discs.

Midlife, like O-bie-won-ka-no-bie, you were my only hope. If you don't know, no one does.

There's only two solid red wires: one is for the tach; the other is one side of the ammeter.

I dragged out my '66 Mustang wiring diagram manual & with its help believe I have it figured.

Long story short, the repro under dash harness has some extra wires so it can accommodate both a '65 and a '66, at least where the rally pac wiring is concerned

On the '65 w/ a rally pac, the red/green from the ignition switch is plugged into another red/green which terminates with a female connector that plugs into the male lead coming off of the tach.

However, according to the wiring diagram, on a '66 w/ a rally pac, the red/green from the ignition switch is plugged into my mystery wire, which is red with a green end , that red wire runs into the harness and down to the rally pac wires down by the steering column, where it then ends in a green female connector that plugs into the male lead coming off the tach.

This repro under-dash harness has both a red/green wire and the red mystery wire available to do the same job. If you are following the factory wiring diagram you would just pick the one that matches the year of car you have, leaving the other wire unused.

That is a little speculation on my part, but the only scenario that makes sense to me.

It's the sassafras that hooks directly into the dynaflow, based on my limited electrical experience o_O
