Adjusting gear selector

I'm getting closer to getting it on the road again, thankfully!

I have a 1975 c4 (I believe), and 67 linkage.
I tried to get the shifter and tranny in sync with no luck.

When it's in reverse the reverse lights are on, but...
When in park, it can still be pushed, and the selector will only go down to low 2.
I've tried moving the bolt around the slot with no success.

What's the key to getting this right?

I'm surprised that you are having such problems but maybe having a '75 c4 is the issue.

A possible key is to make an adjustable shifting rod between the C4 and Floor shifter. This is what I did with our 65 which has an AOD. This allowed me to adjust the length of the rod in order to find the sweet spot. Here's a pic of the rod I bent and cut threads with heim joints on each end.

It's possible that your current shifter rod is of the right length and shape, so you might not have to take the above step.

Also, not only did I have to adjust the distance between the floor shifter and AOD arm, but also had to relocate the connecting point on the floor shifter arm by raising the contact point about 3/4". This is where I found the sweet spot that allowed the shifter and AOD talk (Sync). Odds are you might have to do something similar. Here's a pic of an adjustable bracket I made which allowed me to relocate the contact point of the shifter rod to floor shifter arm.

Here's a stock shifter rod connected to a bracket:

Oh Lordy, I hope it doesn't get that complicated for me.

How have any of y'all gotten yours to work correctly?
Any tips/tricks to it?

playing with the length of the floor shifter arm is the solution.
As Craig mentioned.

Lilalaric,
Yes, since you have connected the shifter rod between the trans and floor shifter, it does sound like the contact point on the floor shifter arm that hangs down. You can pretty easily make one of those brakets as I've shown in the last two pics, very easy out of square tubing. Not seen but I created an oval hole on the back side of the bracket so I can slide the bracket up and down the floor shifter arm. I'm predicting new connection point to be 5/8" - 3/4" above the stock hole.

Okay, maybe the problems not (totally) an issue with the selector.

Tonight I got the car into park on the linkage and selector, told the boy to put the keys in and shift to reverse. He shifted Into reverse, but no lights came on. I had him shift into park (car wouldn't move), and then the reverse lights came on!

Any ideas now?

Putting the reverse lights issue aside, are you successfully able to put the car into all it's PRND21 positions? Are you using the stock floor shifter arm hole?

Yes, all parts are stock and original to the car except the transmission which is from a 75, but from what I've seen there is no difference between a 67 and 75 in dimensions.

Before the engine was pulled a while back, everything worked fine. Lights worked when they were supposed to, as well as being able to shift into all gears. Now, it seems like nothing's working correctly.

Update:

Once I got the linkage in neutral, and put the gear selector in neutral, everything lined up on the gear selector.
One more problem taken care of, who knows how many more to go.
