spent a few mins in between other stuff to mill a bezel for the shifter boot (when i get around to sewing one up). cant decide if i want to paint it silver, gloss black or flat black. the hardware will be flush mounted stainless hex screws. any ideas on what would look best? usually i know but just cant get a good grasp on this one..

Satin black unless you have other silver trim that might coordinate the whole interior....and might be nice contrast against the carpet.

Clearcoated silver with button head stainless screws looks great IMO... I have an old grant challenger steering wheel I did that too and it looks much nicer. With black carpeting and shift boot I think it will look great.

tried the brushed look today, which also gives me an idea what the silver would look like & that makes it look too big & bulky. think i'll shoot some black epoxy on it tomorrow & if i like that, will go with the 40% flattened black i use on the harley chassis parts...

shot some black epoxy on it & think i'll paint it black. had already thought about covering it with leather, but unless you have some tapered washers, when you tighten down the screws, the leather pulls.

Black looks awesome... Maybe sandwich another piece of sheet metal between the leather and the body to keep it from snagging

took a few mins while primer was drying & stitched up a boot today...

i'll get the ring painted with the next batch of black parts. need to paint the stick too.

painted the ring & attached the boot;

made the lower plate that attaches to the floor that the upper plate fastens to. made a rubber weather seal to keep water out kinda similar to what the newer mustangs use. I drilled & countersunk it to bolt down using a couple of the original auto shifter mounting holes. I HATE reaching around under a car & ripping my hands up on sheet metal screws so avoid using those if at all possible!

just need to reinstall the front carpet, may get it finished up tomorrow. went to the biker bar for beers this evening, so stopped work early for once...
