Buy a 'stang that's a buy back?

I came across a 2012 base GT with 40k miles for $19,800.

I called the dealer and he told me that it was a manufacture buy back. Customer complained of suspension noise going over bumps 3 times, then Ford bought it back. The salesman said that any problems have been fixed, the car will come with a 12month 12k miles warranty on it.

Not sure I want to bite. The car is pretty much what I'm looking for (except for the color). The dealer is about 50 miles from here and I haven't made it over yet, but am not sure I want to make the drive now. I dunno? Is this a deal killer for you?

(BTW, they also have a 2011 Premium with 57k, 2 accident reports, for 18,900. That's more miles than I want, and I'm not sure about those accidents)
 
First off, it's awesome to hear you are in the market for a new Mustang. Do you know the reason for the suspension noise? There is a TSB for front control arms, which calls for their replacement if they make noise. If that was it, it was fixed, and the title is clear, then it wouldn't bother me at all. As for the other one, I'd want to know the severity of the accidents. If it was just a bumper job from a Kroger cart, no prob. If it was a head on with a Suburban, then probably not. Good luck in your search, and let me just add, if you can swing the premium, it's worth it.

The CarCheck said one of the wrecks only caused "slight damage."

The problem is the other one (in November) only lists a Police Report Case # in McDonnough. At that point the owner had owned the car 10 months. So 10 months of ownership, there's a wreck, and now the car is sitting on a dealer's lot. That kinda concerns me. I'd need that police report to know for sure, though.

As for the Buy Back, yeah, both LCA's changed. But it is on the title that it's a buy back, and it will ALWAYS be on the title. It's not as bad as a salvage title, but it's still a negative. I figure it won't matter when I go to resell (which will be in 5-6 years minimum, unless the car is a total dog). So I dunno.

I dunno. Maybe this is a sign to wait for the perfect car to land on my lap.

Aside from the leather interior and a few niceties, what is the big difference between the base and the premium? What features make you say it's "Worth it." Because I have not been able to find a decent check-list to explain what exactly premium means.

As far as the premium goes, it adds Microsoft Sync (bluetooth, voice command, USB), better stereo, My Color (LED lighting), better gauges, much better steering wheel with buttons, auto headlight, aluminum dash inserts, leather, and probably some other things I've missed. I suggest you go sit in both and see the differences for yourself. Honestly, I enjoy my premium features way more on a daily basis than I do the power of the V8.

As far as the title issue and accidents go, it really just comes down to if you can live with it, and accept that it will affect resale. Otherwise, there are plenty of other fish in the sea.

I would look else where. The wreck and police chase sounds possibly rough. There have been several who have complained that after more than one replacement of the front did no good. I would keep looking myself.

I was thisclose to buying a '12 base but didn't pull the trigger. Liked the car a lot but after spending some time in it didn't "love" it. Got into a "premium" '14 and found the "love". Seating is the obvious big difference but there are seemingly endless little things that make it such a better experience.
 
Thanks guys, for the input. I think I might skip this one. I have definitely decided I won't buy anything until I've test driven both.
 
From mechanical standpoint I would not be afraid of it. The branded title is a different matter. I've sat in on and been involved in lemon law arbitrations before. Sometimes they have merit, sometimes it's a customer with unreasonable expectations and sometimes there's absolutely nothing wrong with the car but the dealer/manufacturer failed the guidelines/time to repair, etc.

Pass on it. The title will always be an issue.
 
You're going to buy a USED Mustang? Who in their right mind would buy a used Mustang? I mean...what, oh sorry wrong forum... :whis :hide
