For you Power Tour folks...

I tip my hat to you. And anyone else who journeys long distances in their vintage rides. IMO, it takes guts to take these old cars on the open road so far from home.

Thanks,
Before the Tour starts I worry a bit about what if something goes wrong. I think that I have to drive the heck out of my car to make sure everything is OK but I don't. I've replaced everything possible and pray it and the rest of the car holds up to the journey. So far 2 PT's and only a bad tank of gas a few hundred miles from home. If I keep doing the PT, chances are something will need fixing but there are a LOT of good people driving that same route that will stop and lend a hand.
This year 12 days and 3570 miles, what FUN!!! :yah

Forgot: 2 rock chip's :censored in the paint, one of them on the roof.

:thu :bowdown

I second those thoughts....good to see you folks doing what these things were designed for.....driving the heck out of them. Too bad there are no big west coast tours like that.

Thanks, It was fun. My only set back was a bad ignition switch. It was just flaky and I was able to eventually start the stang. It is fun.

The paint chips I got (thanks Alabama for the cruddy roads) are just proof I drive it.

I officially hate Alabama Highways since I also got 2 windshield chips while in Alabama, one during the tour, and one on the drive home.

You should see what 6 years of track days does to a paint job! The front of my 66 looks like the Moon!

Agree - hat's off to you guys! :steer

It's funny - when I did Mustangs Across America, Power Tour, and various "iowa events" in the 65, it never really worried me. I'd been thru every nut & bolt in that car, and knew what was what...

With that said, I'm driving the 86 Saleen to Houston this summer for the Saleen Nationals, and I'm completely in knots freaking out about it. :puk It's only 1400 miles into 100* weather in a car that's mostly untouched (even factory 27 y/o hoses). I mean, what can go wrong? :no Even been thinking about trying to rent/borrow/buy/steal a truck & trailer. But, what fun would that be? :yah

I take my hat off to ya'll as well. :thu :thu

I was a little worried about my car with it's original engine and front suspension. I have not done anything internally to the motor or even had a front end alignment in the almost nine years I have had the car. And coming down Lookout Mountain with the four wheel drum brakes and single bowl master cylinder was interesting to say the least. But it made the 2788 mile trip without incident and seemed to run better at the end than it did at the beginning. :yah

I am dying to make a real road trip, the wife was on Vaca a few weeks ago but the weather sucked everywhere and we just did not see the point.

I do get to drive about 100 miles on Saturdays going to various cruise ins, the car loves the high speeds of the interstate but everyone keeps telling me I am going to get a ticket doing the 85/95 MPH blasts in a car that is anything but low profile..

I guess I need to start a "Radar Detector" thread.

I really do feel the car could go anywhere, I know the wife shot down the 11 hour road trip to Mid-America this week. :wth
