Still on the hunt for another vehicle. I am done with the truck search. Everything I like is more than I want to spend. Now we're back in the new mustang market. With the current incentives new seems to be the right way to go. Problem is I do not want my son driving a GT with a Coyote engine. Even with the ability to somewhat control the functions of the car with "My Key" I'm just not comfortable with it. So...is it crazy to buy a V6? I've always kinda thought so but now here I am.
I drove one yesterday with a 6 speed and have to admit it moved pretty well. Looking at a MCA Edition in "Gotta have it Green". I think with the right black vinyl striping it could be pretty cool looking.

So what does everyone think about buying a non-Coyote?

Nothing wrong with getting the v6. I've been looking at getting a v6 mustang convertible. I don't want to spend the money on a new one, but that newer v6 would be more than fine for me. I put a lot of miles on everyday so I like the better mileage vs the v8.

Nothing wrong with a 6 cyl if you don't mind your son wearing a dress and playing with Barbie dolls. V8 all the way pops!

Just remember........

Don't be like this guy!!!

So took the wife to go take a look. She likes the GT (hood louvers!) more. But she wants to get an automatic. Damn. Between the big price difference V6 to V8 and the insurance...$$$...like everything else I get into this one is getting off course.

When the hell did I become such a cheapskate? Driving myself mad.

not a cheapskate, just smart. those brand new ones are nice, but I find it hard to spend that kind of money on something that depreciates so fast. even if I had piles of disposable income, I would have a hard time justifying a new car.

Nuttin wrong with a V6. My daughter our ran all the cops (Police challange) on a small SCCA course in hers. They all drove a Laguna Seca. She was 2 seconds faster than those guys.

Get the V6, then have hood louvers installed or swap out with a V8 hood, with all the custom stuff people put on you find a lot of new takeoffs. I'd be comfortable with the new 300+hp V6, wifes got an '09 V6 200hp and I wish it had another 100hp...but you know how that goes.
You might loose the auto battle but win the cost/mpg battle with the 6. A tuner will make the auto shift in a more performance mode.

For me, it would be a V8 or no Mustang. If you absolutely insist on a V6, it better be a stick car.

V6 auto = if you wear pink panties, we'll never know, but we'll all know you driving a V6!

I'm also on the side of the fence that would never buy a brand new car. Let someone else eat the instant depreciation. Buy something a couple years old.

I would drive a used car with some style before I spent a dime of my money on a new car, and a new American "performance" car with a V6 automatic would make me sick to my stomach if I were making payments. Maybe if it had a 6 speed....maybe.

But honestly, even if I were a rich man, I would buy a used car before I would take that depreciation hit on that kinda car, ESPECIALLY if it were for my kid to drive...setting an example sorta thing I guess.

Now, if it were Italian....

Just an opinion.

So here's the thing. Buying a used car is a good idea to avoid the drive off depreciation up until you realize the price point on a one or two year old car is still quite steep. Couple that with the higher interest rate on a used car loan and guess what? You still end up paying a lot of that "saved" money is interest. Doing the math, unless you are a cash buyer, the used car is not that great a savings. I'm not a cash buyer for something north of $25k. Especially when Ford is giving away next to free money in the form of seriously low interest rates (1.9% for example).

So...

The seemingly never ending quest is finally over. Went to buy the 6 speed V6 but just couldn't do it. Went against my grain, I guess. The wife made a comment about liking the GT hood and that was all it took. 5.0 6-speed it is. This one is for keeps. Lessen learned when I sold the Roush.

Now to personalize it. Vinyl striping seems a must. I'm thinking single, very wide, matte black stripe on hood and deck lid with narrow parallel stripes on the outer edges of that main stripe. Open to any and all suggestions.

Nice car that you ended up with, your stripe plan souns good to me. Sort of along the lines of the King Cobra stripes.

I like it! I am not a fan of green but it is sharp!

I'm thinking black stripes, kind of in the style of the Boss 302 of old.
