Lost a friend and mentor yesterday

For the last few years Merle, a semi-retired auto mechanic/body man, has been helping me get my old rusted mustang roadworthy again (ok, to be honest, its more like I have been helping him). Merle had more knowledge on cars than I will ever hope to know. He handled all the work that was beyond my skillset, restoring my old mustang back to a solid car and getting it ready to paint. the painter was very impressed with the quality of the work and told me so a few times. Merle and I were planning our strategy for reassembling the car after it comes back from paint in a coupe months. We joked about who got the 1st drive in the car once it was back together and I told him his wife and he had that honor no contest.

Merle passed away from a heart attack yesterday, his daughter called me last night to let me know the sad news. Over the years Merle became way more than a mechanic to me, he was a friend and mentor, and I will miss him very much. RIP Merle.

I'm very sorry for your loss. Your car will be a good remembrance of the good times you both shared.

Wow there are only so many people that we cross paths with during our lives that are more than just friends. They are people that sometimes after their loss it is only then that we realize how they truly effected and touched our everyday life's. Keep his memories alive and when you take that first drive remember he'll be sitting in the passenger seat right with you.

Steve,
Very sorry to hear of this. Do you have someone else in mind who might be able to help you, maybe not at the same level as Merle was at but something anywhere near? It's such a shame to hear of the passing of such knowledgeable people who loved to help others. Who will replace such skills? Sad day indeed.

no one in mind to help me finish the car, I think I can do it on my own it will just take longer than planned with only one set of hands. There are a few things I am fuzzy on but I'll figure it out. I can call in some favors from friends for the 2 person jobs. I will be asking some (more) dumb questions here I am sure along the way.

forgive my non existent photo editing skills, but here's a couple pics I was able to extract from bigger photos

Sorry for you loss. You were a source of joy to him too in appreciating him for his skills.

Steve,
There's not such a thing as a dumb question, unless I ask it. Do not to hesitate to ask away.
