Need some ideas...

Or how do I fix what I did. When I installed the TKO trans, I had to do a little cutting on the tunnel for the shifter. And now, I want to go back to an auto and install a 4r70w in my fastback. I don't have any pics, that would be easier to see what I did, but the console and carpet are still in the car. So, I'll try and explain how much I cut out.

I didn't have to cut out a whole lot to get it fit. Around the shifter hole there's that reinforced area that the shifter bolts to. That's what I cut out. Ok...I cut half it out, the right half From about dead center, top and bottom, to just outside the reinforced area. That's all I needed to remove for the shifter base to clear.

I've looked at some of the part houses, and no one sells just the tunnel as a patch panel. And I'm not gonna buy the whole floor pan, just for that piece. So, any brilliant ideas on how to fix what I did? If I was thinking, I should have cut out the whole piece, then I could just weld it back in. And I have no idea where that piece is, or I could just weld it back in. I think it got tossed or lost when we moved.

Thanks

With all the full floors being replaced surely someone has one they could cut that are out of for you. Generally speaking, that area rarely is in bad shape...unless some yahoo cuts it up for some reason. :whis

I think you should be able to install the auto without it....

I'm not sure. I didn't have to cut either the 67 for the T5 or the 65 for the TKO.

Not sure whether the "new" trans will need clearancing for the shifter to fit so I express no opinion on that. If you need to return the shifter opening to "stock", I can check with Packy and see if he has a used stock tunnel he'll cut up. How much larger that the shifter opening do you want?

Jeff,

Thanks that would be awesome if you could check with Packy. I'm looking at going back to a stock shifter with the auto swap. I don't need a whole lot, maybe around an 1.5" around the the reinfornced area.

thanks
