Online Source for Bolts

I have been looking for a place online to buy a couple of bolts and I'm not having a lot of luck. The Mustang suppliers only provide for certain things, and most of the fastener suppliers are wanting to sell you a box of 100. I just need 1 or 2...

The main bolt in question is 5/16-18 x 3 3/8", 1/2" hex. This for the non-AC alternator mounting bracket. The one I have is for the AC pulley (much longer), which I have removed. (look for my complete AC system to be up for sale soon).

Does anyone know where I can buy just a few bolts? Also, on the engine mounted accessories, should those be Grade 8 or is 5 high enough quality?

A good locally owned hardware store usually has a good selection of bolts, including grades 5 and 8. The length of bolt you seek is obviously not a standard size but that's easily corrected with a grinder/saw/etc. Just be sure to thread a nut on first so you can "fix" the threads by turning it off after shortening. Or in your case, just putting a thicker flat washer under the bolt head would do the same. You don't need a grade 8 for your intended purpose.

The bigger the bolt you are looking for the smaller the standard quantity is to buy online as well. Most internet suppliers are not interested in selling single bolts for obvious cost reasons. McMaster Carr has a pretty good selection of fasteners as one option.

Tim, For period correct, you cannot beat AMK. For the best selection and customer service, use B&A Industrial in Plano on Summit road. I work only 1.5 miles form there. They will sell you just one bolt if that is all you need.

It's the other 2 bolts that mount the alternator bracket to the engine. They go through the water pump.

Maybe I can come up with $30 worth of other fasteners and get them from AMK. B&A sounds like a good option.

Thanks everyone!

Fastenal is another source of bolts and fasteners, although they usually are a bit more expensive.

McMaster-Carr is by far the best on-line resource for all sorts of hardware and their service is superb.

Have you looked in a salvage yard.....many old Fords used the type you neeed. Also, could just buy a water pump bolt kit....a few extra but you get what you need.

Tim, How about these, the polished ones are stainless steel.

Wow John! I already ended up ordering one of the water pump kits, But thanks buddy!

I like the idea about getting some from the Salvage Yard - I've got an Eastwood tumbler and that works miracles:)

Now my issue is re-installing the heater controls. The hardware that was on there didn't seem right, and I can't figure out how it fastens to the dash... maybe that odd hardware was right!?
The more I looked into it, one of the pieces was the correct retainer and one of them was a PO gettin' creative...
