Recycled Rally Pac

Inspired by 65-408 "Homegrown rally pac" thread, I thought I'd see if I could replace the original, no working, gauges in my Rally Pac, with a couple of Autometer type. Which BTW are what I have for dash gauges... I dug out my old High profile pac and had a friend come up with a bezel that would adapt the 2-1/16" Autometer gauges to the housing; first picture is what he came up with. I had to open up the center and screw holes just a little but once done I was pretty happy with the fit... The gauge cups needed some modification to accept the new gauge housing but that was just trial and error with a dremel tool...

All that's left is wiring; which is where I need some assistance... As you can see I'm connecting a Tach and Clock. Both are pretty straight forward connections but I'd like to at least connect the lights under the dash, without removing the dash gauges. Can someone tell me which wire on a '66 to use and can I get to it from under the dash?

I have six of the bezels left if anyone out there has an old pac they want to try some new gauges in...

There's a three-prong plug with blue/red wires that's used for various lights that can be controlled by the headlight switch and taps into the dash lamps.

Thanks!

Also, the Pac housing has a ground screw with a lead that has a bullet connector on the free end (presumably to plug into the underdash harness). Is there any reason I can't connect all the various ground wires to that screw, and just use the single lead for all grounds?

Is the free end a male or female bullet connector? In either case, something is wrong. If it is a ground line (because of the ground screw), there is no where on a underdash harness for a male or female bullet connector to finalize the ground. I believe one of the wires from a standard rally pac is the ground wire for the clock light, and that line should go to the grounding point with a ring connector. If this is an aftermarket tach, it needs a ground as well.

Male bullet connector. All together there are 4 separate ground wires; one each for the two gauges' lights, and one each for the tach and clock... I want to join them all inside the housing and run a single ground wire from there.

Nearly done...

I had it all wired and working fine then came back to discover the clock had stopped. First thought was that I'd blown the fuse, but when I opened the door it started again... I guess that constant 12v I found so easily is really controlled by the door switch... Oh well, I'll find another tomorrow.

Final mounting will have to wait until I replace the steering column clamp I misplaced... I ordered a new one from CJ Pony but found out they're backordered; NPD and Mustang Unlimited are out of stock. Anyone have a suggestion on where else to look or maybe a suitable substitute?

Try any unused female bullets that have green/yellow wires. In addition, there should be a 3-prong yellow or black plug near the fuse box that the radio and backup lights take power.

Nice! that was my original plan, but I couldn't find a reasonable housing. I am surprised at how much bigger the housing is than my design... I was going of pictures on the internet and apparently got the scale off a bit...

I like the smaller scale of your housing. When I thought about using my old Pac, I was afraid that the 2-1/16" gauges would be too small, but I was sure anything larger would not fit in the original gauge cups (which is how they mount to the housing). As it was I had to cut out the back for the clock. I just wish A/M sold a "Cobalt" tach in that size to match what I have in the dash... All in all I'm pretty happy with the results; thanks for the inspiration...

Though I'm sure the duct taped results would have been show quality, it won't be necessary as I've located the clamp. Thanks anyway for the suggestion...
