Replaced wiring in 65 column to fix horn... Lecarra button is crap? ?

I changed my column wiring because one of the horn contacts was missing and now the horn works if I short the wires coming out of the Lecarra wheel, but the horn just grunts slightly when the button is plugged in,what gives? I took some sandpaper to rough up the contact surfaces and even peened the connecting for a better connection between the spade lug connectors and the buttons inner contacts rivets with no real success.

Any ideas? Is this a common issue? These buttons feel like a real quality part but mine just does not work.

I have the aluminum button, but its the cheaper option of the aluminum so it may just be a bad design, but I hate to order a $50 button if it is built like the one I have.

The $26 button that I have.

Check the contact pins inside. My LeCarra ring has the wire soldered near where the pins make contact. So each time I turn my wheel the small solder spot presses against the pin with a side force. Now the pin has been bent and sometimes since it can twist/revolve it puts itself out of contact with the contact wheel. Only real fix is to buy new innards of the turn signal switch would would get new pins in it.

Everything is new, and everything works perfectly until I actually plug that horn button on. If I short the plugs even after its plugged together the thing honks, but if I press the button the thing moans like the button has too much resistance to make the connection? I took it apart and its a spring and a metal cup, but they must be made of some real crap metal.

I have the black plastic horn button for the Lecarra on my '66 Fastback and son's '66 coupe. I have had a heck of a time with the turn signals cancelling... I have replaced the column wiring now twice and still can't get it right. My son has to manually cancell his turn signals every time and mine works sometime.

Yeah, thats a totally different issue, thats under the steering wheel. It may just be the roll pin length.

Does your horn button work? Does it get hot if you honk it very long?
