Should I sell my car?

So I just don't have the time to really finish my car. It's been almost 3 years since I started my engine swap. The more I look at the frame rails and rust repair needed, the more I think I should just sell it.

I got so fed up yesterday I put it on Craigslist again. I put the price pretty high for a non running, semi project car, daily driver.

Well someone called today. Not a scammer just a local guy. He wants to come look at it on Friday. I Sent him a bunch of pictures.

I told Jen and she thinks I'll regret it.
I just don't know what to do.

If you get your price, sell it and buy a running one. Mine are always for sale, just no one wants to pay my price yet.

Welcome to why I no longer own the '66 Coupe. Mine are always for sale also if the price is right.

I'd sell the TA tomorrow if the price was right.....but must admit it's harder to find a TA in decent running and original shape so that price would be pretty high but still if someone wanted to pay it I'd go home now and get the title.

The regret would probably come from why you are selling. You are frustrated. If you drove it to a show and some one offered you a great price and you were tempted then you might never look back but because you listed it out of frustration i suspect you might someday wish you kept it. But as others have said, if you get your price then buy one that you will enjoy. I just suspect you are like me and the reason you started this project is you cant leave them alone. If you buy another you will probably want to make some changes to it. So keep that in mind too.
Sorry Im not much help.

I think I have regretted selling almost every car I've ever owned (with the possible exception of a 70 Fiat 124 Coupe). I too have a car on Craig's List right now that I'm hoping won't sell. Since we bought a new 13 Nissan Altima 3.5L in December I've been "trying to sell" my 00 Camaro Z28 because my wife feels that four cars is too much for a pair of old farts and, BTW, she isn't letting go of her GMC mini-van. The Cammy is a blast to drive with the LS1 engine and it has been my DD for thirteen years now. I keep hoping that all the respondents are like the guy from "Oaktown" who called himself SilkySmooth. I would, of course, be happy to give him all the information necessary to find my car and my home. Right? Everyone else who has responded so far wants to get it for about 2/3 the kbb value. This would only be a problem if I really wanted to sell it.

I think Craig you're mostly right on that. I am selling it mostly of frustration but I did listed before I started this engine swap a couple of time thinking I wanted something different..

Jen asked me today what I would buy instead of it and I couldn't come up with an answer . so maybe that means I don't want anything else I'd probably buy another mustang convertible.

I regret many sales, glad for others....but never look back to hard. Frustration is the start of a good price for a buyer so be careful. I agree to the selling and getting a better car for you. I miss having a classic but still have fun vehicles to drive.

I do this very often, ask Tarafied :whis

If someone gave me my stupid asking price, then it would just be gone. Until that day, I'll keep plugging along and finish it by the time I'm retired.

Mine has become a never-ending money pit. The more I try to fix it, the more I find wrong with it. I just don't have the time or cash to fix all the metal work that needs to be done. Our rental property has been sucking us dry since march, ever since that pos that rented it, tore the place up, and skipped town. Owes us 3 months rent. Spent yesterday morning hauling his crap to the dump. And the water heater leaked, destroying the wood floors downstairs. So a crapload of money has been lost. And our ac compressor died, so there's that too.
Now that I own a shop where I can work on it, I can't afford to do it.

Pat, sell the vert and buy my 2+2.

I would have to chop the top and the engine curse would follow it right to me.

I've found that the engine doesn't break if it doesn't get driven!

Better?

Pat you're almost to the point of seeing the end of the tunnel (you've past the point of seeing the light). I truly think it's frustration that's motivating you. You've gotten so much of the big stuff done already it's down to details. You know the saying "the devil's in the details". If you want opinion, I'd have to say nix the sale. When you have that motor purring all those frustrating times will seem well worth it!

Problem is I past the tunnel and went into another one. The efi isn't really it. It's the more time I spend crawling under the car, the more problems I see. The rusty frame rails are making think about getting rid of it. I know I can't do those and my health issues are taking a toll on me when working on the car.

You could be like Sheldon, dump the Mustang and get a rice burner.

or a T/A...same difference.

Pat,

I totally get where you are at right now. You're focused on something you feel you can't repair yourself and are letting it mess with your head. Pick up the phone and make a few calls and get some quotes on having the rust repair done for you. Call some welders as well as auto shop places. You might be surprised that it is not as expensive to have done as you might think. Especially if you find a guy who will do it "on the side".

Even if you don't follow through, you will at least know what the repairs would cost which will help in negotiations if you end up trying to sell.

At least my motor is running and I drove it last week. :whis

Pat,
Just how bad are the frame rails and other rust issues? Pics? Is the engine bay empty?

I don't know how bad they would be considered.
Here's a few really bad pictures. Hard to really see it.

The worst spots are the inner rails by the torque boxes. Looks like someone mangled a patch on there to cover up .

And of course the outer rails where the bumper mounts.
