Some RestoMod Projects Finished

Well I finished some projects I was working on.
First, my rearview mirror. Don't you hate looking at a totally restomodded interior only to see it using an original mirror? I do.
Yes, you can just swap out to a windshield mounted mirror. But that is no fun.

I found an old rusty, broken mirror on Ebay for cheap. Took it apart and used the inside mounting bracket.
Also bought a Bluetooth mirror on ebay. The type you would normally clip on the front.
Used Epoxy to join the two. Then used glazing putty over the epoxied parts and formed the new shape.
Sanded, filled, sanded, filled, etc...
Painted it with semi-flat black trim paint to match the front. Painted the brackets with dark charcoal. (Since my interior is now that color)
Now I have a better viewing angle and bluetooth.

Re: Some Mod Projects Finished

I installed some vinly covered door skins from MP Products and painted them dark charcoal. They looked great but now the back interior quarter trim needed something. (The door skins fit was terrible. It took a long time to get these in good) MP products also sells the rear quater trim already covered. But for $200+

Went to Joane Fabrics with a 50% off coupon. Bought 2 square yards of grey vinly that matched the door skins pretty close.
Cleaned the panels. Used some 3M Spray adhesive and a heat gun to stretch and form. Covered everything and sprayed them dark charcoal. Also used Dynamat on the back.

Re: Some Mod Projects Finished

I need some custom door panels to go with my other mods. Plus, since I installed power windows. I wanted to remove the window crank hole.

Bought some cheap repo door panels on Ebay. Ripped off the cheap covers and used the backboard. I was to lazy to make my own plus the cutouts were there to save me time.

Went to Joane Fabrics again with another 50% off coupon. Got 1 square yard of the same vinly from earlier. Also got 1 square yard
of headliner material to give the panels some thickness. (optional). You can get fancy and cut the headliner material or some thin foam into a shape. Then when the panels are wrapped and stretched with a heat gun. Then shape will come thru on the panel giveing it some the form.

Almost Last Mod :

I was sick of my rear package tray that I had covered with black vinly a while back. Since I had bottom mounted 6 x 9 speakers I wanted something that would let the sound come thru a little better. I bought some high end speaker cloth and clear adhesive from Ebay. Bought a new $9 package tray from my local Mustang supplier. Measured and cut out holes for my speakers. Wrapped the tray with the cloth. Used Dynamat on the metal tray to help reduce rattles from the bass notes. I think it looks a lot better than the vinly. You can see the indentation where I have to stretch it more.

Last Mod:

My wonderfull wife bought me some blinking mirrors from Mustang Project. But, when I tried to install them I found that my painter, 20+ years ago, did not remove the mirrors! So the shorter base showed the underlying paint/primer. I had to make a gasket to cover it up. I found an old VHS tape cover and made some gaskets using the old base gaskets as a template. Used a heat gun to form the newly made VHS gasket to the contuor of the old gaskets.

Finally, unrelated. My cat getting ready to BBQ. :thu

Good work, no piccy on the last 2 mods that I can see?
So the blue tooth gives you hands free phone? I can see the mic grilles I believe, is there a speaker in there too?

I'd like to be able to overide my radio with phone call audio so that if my phone rings and i hit answer the radio goes off and the audio for the phone call comes over my speakers, is that available in an aftermarket radio yet?

I was still editing the posts when you read it.

Yes, the bluetooth is handsfree with a mic and speaker built in. Mine charges a built in battery with a USB cord that is detachable. Standby time is like 500hrs?? And it works great with the windows up. Even with all the road and engine noise.

All, I do is hit mute on my radio then the answer button on the mirror. I also have a carputer installed. So, I could also connect with it and have the sound come thru the car speakers. But, I never hooked up a mic.

I hope you meant 1 sq. yard, otherwise you are really good at stretching vinyl over those door panels.....LOL!!

Seriously, good looking mods.

Ok, now I see it all. On the rear package tray I was planning something similar. I was going to put screen mesh over the holes then cover with cloth so you wouldn't know there were speakers mounted from underneath. A friend advised me to cover the entire panel with screen and then the cloth to keep them tight. If you just cover the hole with the screen you can't get it tight enough was the problem.
Nice work.
