I am trying to track down why my wife's 68 coupe wiper are not working. To check the switch, the cluster gauges had to come out.

While I am at it, the turn signals are getting flaky (after market sequential system) so out come the steering column.

Noticed the radio is pinching a couple AC ducts and since the console was not aligned correctly, out came the console.

To get better access to under the dash, out came the seats and the glove box.

I have a nice Mustangs to Fear dash, so out come the rest of the dash.

My 2 day project is now a 2+ week project.

Wonder what else needs done under the dash since I have it stripped.

All that is in great shape.

Just remembered the Tach does not register the correct RPMs. It never gets over 1k. Maybe it needs a rebuild.

Is it a stock or aftermarket tach? While you are working on the wiper issue, grease up the arms. Yes, removing the seats to work on the dash is the only way to go.

Stock Dash. Also have a Pertronic distributor (if that makes any difference)

It can. A Pertronix I tends to lower the rpms by about 200 rpms; a Petronix II needs a special adapter, IIRC.

I have the same distributor in my other Mustang (but it has an aftermarket Mini-Tach) and it reads fairly correct. There seems to be some wired wiring under the dash, so when I get to tat item, I post some pics and a diagram of what I am seeing.

Aftermarket tachs work just fine; it's the Ford OEM tach that has issues. Ford tachs are current-sensing; aftermarket tachs are voltage-sensing.

Got the Mustang to Fear dash painted and test fitted. Trying to decide if I want to just tuck the Vin plate under the dash pad or cut the pad for it to stick out.

do not like the white metal showing (the old pad also did this). I think I will paint the area black when I take the pad back out. This way it will not be so noticeable.

For a 68, I would have the vin# exposed as originally designed.

Forget shampooing it. Yank it & take it to the car wash. Nothing like a pressure to clean the carpet.
