So, on the trip down to Knotts last week all was fine...until a stop light in Malibu. I went to idle but it seemed very high, around 1400. Should be around 5-600. I knew that before I hit the main LA hell traffic I would need to fix it. Stop, open hood, remove air cleaner, start engine, idles fine. :shrugAll the way through LA to Knotts its fine in traffic at idle. After check in at the hotel I go to get gas, high idle. :bomb Stop, raise hood, start engine, idles fine. :shrug Get gas, start engine, high idle. Put in reverse to park and look again, idle fine. Get back to hotel where GrabberOrange69 (Bryan) takes a look and notes that the throttle arm is not returning all the way. He moves the return spring for more tension (single spring). On Saturday on ride to Pomona, idle is fine. Sunday on the way to Knotts show, high idle. While at the show David67 hears the story and notes that the rod connecting the pedal to the carb armseems to be short, well duh on my part. :roll Re-adjust to lengthen it and idle is fine. It's been at the previous setting for years and now it decides to be different????? :guns
Daivd offers up a new connecting rod with Heim joints that he makes. So he brings it by after Sunday dinner and we're out there installing it when, uh-oh. Carb link arm hole is too big for his kit. Back goes the old rod. :beer
Got home and installed a bushing so his kit now works. Also took the suggestion to add a safety spring to the mix. :thu
