Re: Cam and distributor

If it's a flat tappet cam it will work.

What year model and make is the engine?

It has been rebuilt and the only info I have is that it is a motorhome.

Also jealous of your Twisted Mustang. My dream car

OK, so you need to bump your engine over so that the number one piston is in the top dead center position. then when you install the dizzy make sure your rotor is pointing to the number one plug wire on the cap.

You will know your number one piston is TDC when it blows air out of the plug hole.

This will give you a rough time. Put your plugs in install your cap and rotor and wires, then try cranking it over if it fires all is well and you can put a timing light on it and turn the dizzy one way or the other to gain your preferred timing. You will be lighting up the harmonic balancer and the timing mark on it and the metal part that hangs over it showing the degrees.

If your engine pops through the carb, you have the dizzy 180 degrees out. You will need to bump your engine back over to TDC on number one and remove your cap and remove it. then when you put it back in you will need to make sure the rotor is pointing 180 degrees from where it was.

I hope this is as clear as mud. I learned how to do this years ago when my second mustang popped a tooth on the timing belt after a hard run in 1980. I replaced the timing chain and then I knew nothing and had to learn it all the hard way. I had a heck of a time getting it right the first time. It is easier to do when you have help and can be taught.

Thanks for the advice Mel! Soon as I get to that point I'll update you on how it goes.

First will be the Engine rebuild :rant and hopefully a new paint job if it's in the budget.
