Indoor Car Cover

The boy has headed off to college and left me with the 65 fastback. I will never be able to drive it as much as he did, in fact it will sit most of the time in the garage. I would like to cover it as we live in a very dusty environment and want to protect it from people walking next to it or hitting it with something. :guns Does anybody have any first hand experience on a good cover to protect and keep it clean?

I have several of those Car Capsule car covers and they are much more than a car cover. They keep the car from getting hit by most anything and they keep the car as clean as it was when you put it inside. They last for years and don't use but a couple of cents per day of elect. Way worth the cost if you want to keep the car nice.

I pulled our 63 Galaxie out of one a couple of moths ago to get it ready for the summer and it was so clean, all I did was hit it with a car duster and off we went. It will spend all winter in the same one and come out next summer ready to go. I will even go so far as to say they will pay for themselves by keeping the car from accident damage from falling objects, bugs, kids, cats, dogs and any number of things that can hurt a car.

I found most of ours used on ebay for about half of what they go for new.
 
Yea but these things are way better than a garage alone. They keep the car clean and safe, all winter long. I had a car in one for 18 months one time. It came out just as clean as it was when I put it in there.


Quick story -

A guy I read about owns a super nice old Ford that he puts in those fancy car shows each year. He and his crew used to spend 80 hours cleaning it after storage each year to get it ready for the judging at the shows. The first year they put the car in a car capsule for the winter storage, it only took 40 hours to clean it up for the shows. He was skeptical at first but is now a believer and owns a bunch of these covers.
 
Come on John who you trying to kid. You live in Californication and have no winter so you can't really be putting your car in one of those. ;D O:)

Maybe you missed the part where I said I live in a very dusty environment. I would have to wash the car nearly every day to keep it clean. I take my daily driver to the car wash several times a week during harvest season and in the spring wind season. With less than 10" or rain a year, I live in a desert climate.

I was looking at those car capsules, just look like a bit of work to get the car centered on the mat each time. No doubt over time and with practice it would get easier. I like the fact that the bugs and rodents will be kept out as well. The price for a new capsule is not that much more than a quality cover, from my research so far.

Surprisingly, no one has mentioned any rational alternative car covers. About two or three years ago, Mustang Monthly had a nice article discussing the various types of car covers: those for storage indoors, outdoors, breathable, etc. Based upon that information along with a bit more investigation, I bought my car cover for garage storage during the week from NPD. I have been quite happy with it.

No car cover is going to protect against falling weights, bikes falling onto the car, etc. Protection against dust, dirt, bugs, etc., is probably what you're looking for.

I caught what have may been assumed by others to be humor....I just wanted to clarify my situation. I have never covered a car in the garage, never had one this nice sit for a time.
 
I am leaning towards the bubble. I don't plan on driving it all that much, and having it kept clean inside and out is very attractive. I think a regular cover will go on and off much quicker, but still allow the dust intrusion.
 
I have one of the California Car covers for outdoor use. It has a little bit of padding and does a good job of keeping the car clean. The garage I used to keep it in was down 4 miles of gravel and a gravel driveway, so I'm pretty sure it lived in a dusty environment. I also used it to cover the car during trips to and from the track. Kept most of dust off the car during transport.

A little tip - blow it up first and let it sit a while with the fan going. That'll take all the folds out of it and it'll make it easier to put the car in later. When you let the air out, it'll land nice and flat. Undo the zipper, fold the clear part back and pull the car on. After you do it once, it's no big deal.
