My car is in the process of getting paint and body work done and I have a few decisions to make. Wanted to get some input/feedback from you guys.
1. Shave the vents in the cowl or leave them alone?
2. fill holes in trunk link and extensions or leave alone and use the chrome pieces.
3. Car is being painted a 350z type blue with pearl and metallic in it. I was going to do black stripes on the hood/trunk area. Wondering if I should just go with the stripes or just leave it bare.

Any thoughts?
 
my thoughts:

1. If you are using an aftermarket heating/AC unit, get rid of the cowl vents. I wish that we would have done that as they will continue to be problematic.

2. Personal preference based on how much chrome/stainless trim you are using elsewhere on the vehicle. The 65 did not have it on the truck, but we did remove it from the hood.

3. again, personal preference. below is a pic of our 65 painted Kona metallic blue with "Shelby like" matte black stripes.

Sweet looking ride. Would you have ever considered color matching the bumpers? The vents I'm on the fence about as the guy doing the paint and body work said it would be an extra 320 to shave and body work them.
 
we wanted a bit of chrome to offset the paint. We left off the drip rail molding (wish we trimmed the drip rail away) but did do the polished stainless around the front and rear window (not shown in the picture above). We even thought about going matte black on the window surrounds. I don't think body colored bumpers would work on my car.
 
Any more pictures of the car with it all done? my drip rails are shaved. I'm just curious how different things would look as my car isn't going to be stock so its not important to stick to any guidelines. I shaved the rear reflector and the front running light already as well. I wanted to keep the door handles as I think it adds a little bit to the look from the side.

I don't have many as it truly is my son's car and he keeps most of the pictures.

did you do something to the front of the hood? on mine their is a trim piece that one attach to the front of the hood. Did that get shaved off or did that year not come with it?

65s are different from 68s. On the 65 there is a trim piece that screws to the front of the hood and we left it off. On the 68 it almost needs to be there to complete the grill surround, although I have seen cars without it.
 
I would keep the cowl vents. I think it gives the car character. Same with the chrome trim but as said, it's all personal preference.

are you putting the chrome trim back on the hood of your fastback? We tried it with and without, finally decided without....definitely personal preference!
 
blue with black stripes will look good. I like the cowl vents and the trim on a 67/68 around the trunk. My first 67 didn't have the trim and I went to junkyards to find it and add it to the car.

No hood trim other than the F O R D letters. Keeping the drip rails too. Big fan of them. Nostalgia thing I think.
 
drip rails are already off the car. no going back there. I think in essence of my budget, I am going to keep the cowl vents and leave the trim. Just think I need to save extra money for the more pressing matters a the moment. Transmission, sorting out my wheel/brake clearance issues, rear end, brake lines etc. Have to do another mustang one day and maybe go a little wild with that one lol.

Shave the vents.

Here is a picture of mine with the trunk letters removed. I think the trim looks good with a dark color.

Keep the vents. Even you you have a/c you will want fresh air at times w/o rolling the windows down.

If you do decide to eliminate the chrome on the trunk I have one without and would trade you. I am also in SoCal so you can see it before you decide. I like the chrome on trunk, it was one of the first mods to my coupe when I got it.
