it runs!!!

thanks guys! that color REALLY pops out in the sunlight! also toying around a couple ideas to change up the hood blackout a little to make it unique. the mental picture i have of it looks pretty good, but will shoot a test panel first just to make sure.

i think i've figured out that the noise i thought was the throwout bearing is actually the input shaft bearing. if it will hold up thru the summer, i'll drive it as is then maybe have the tranny rebuilt while i have it back apart to paint. it may actually seem louder to me now as i dont have a boot/seal over the shifter hole, so all the noises pass thru. still about to pull my hair out on the brake issue. i thought it might be those temperamental rear calipers, but borrowed the tool & reset the pistons & adjusted according to the ford manual. also rebled the system again & get no air bubbles, but the pedal hasn't changed any, still is soft with no brake action until its close to the floor.

Have you replaced the rubber brake lines? If they are old, they can swell with pedal pressure taking pressure away from the brakes themselves.

For the brakes.....of you loosen a line at the master cylinder and slowly press the pedal....do you get fluid out instantly or is there some pedal travel before fluid flows? Almost sounds like there is to much pedal travel prior to fluid movement. Late fluid movement would give a weak and soft pedal as you describe. Just thinking out loud here..... Could the power booster or master cylinder be bad?

everything is new. made all new stainless hard lines, used braided stainless hoses up front & all three rear hoses are new.

the booster seems to be working properly. after you cut the car off & pump the pedal once to release the vacuum, the pedal is hard as a rock. i adjusted the pushrod between the booster & master to a minimal clearance on the bench before installing everything. bench bled the master, but am now wondering if some air got back in there somehow. these new style master cylinders are a horse of a different color. on the old style, i could bench bleed & mount but only lose a small trickle of fluid in the process of unhooking the bleeders & attaching the hard lines. these new ones flood a stream in the process. i added fluid to the reservoir a couple times in the process to make sure it didn't run dry, but who knows. i'm trying to eliminate everything else before i pull the master back off. clearances are so tight that i would have to loosen the pedal bracket under the dash & loosen the booster to have enough room to get the master out.

Mail order Cigars????????Just kidding, glad you got her going. Always a wonderful feeling.
