*PICS* Value of 69 Mach 1?

My friend is interested in a 69 Mach, and I may inspect it soon. Meanwhile I'm looking for a ballpark value range. No VIN or data plate info yet.

All I know:
2nd owner and original Calif. car
Unmolested 69 Mach 1, 351 2V Auto, motor and trans never rebuilt
Runs and drives, appx 100K miles
Orig Lime Gold now Maroon metallic, but needs paint.
Minor dents and no rust.
Interior good condition, but needs replacement.
Addl options are unknown

I'm guessing a $17K to $19K range??

So much depends upon condition, it's difficult to speculate on value without putting eyes on it. That being said, I know of two '69 Sportsroofs (not Mach 1's) that sold in the last several months. The first one was a total rusted turd bought sight unseen off of ebay from Maryland. The novice buyer got reamed at around $7K. IMHO it was a parts car at best.

The second one was a running, driving, solid California project car that is in significantly better condition and it went for about $9K.

I'm not sure where the market is on Mach 1's but in general I think that prices on '69's in general are climbing from several years ago when Scary was sold.

I would suggest getting the VIN and running a quickie basic Marti report (Fax same day) so you have a base line to work from. IIRC in '69 the Mach 1 was not a separate model for VIN purposes and the interior trim code was the way to confirm factory original vs "tribute" Mach 1.

If you would like a second pair of eyes on this one, let me know.

The body code for a Mach is 63C and non-Mach is 63A, obtained from the door data plate, check to see the door data plate VIN matches the VIN on the left side of driver windshield. Check too that the data plate does not appear new.
 
Yesterday my friend went and bought the car. Paid $18K (but afterwards thought he might have been able to get it for $17K). I looked at it today. Here are some pics. Data plate and dash vin matched. Unmolested 69 Mach, 77.4K orig miles, 4v, 3.25 rear, p/s, non-a/c, originally Black Jade, manual drums changed to power discs, standard rear seat. Super straight body with a few minor dents, no rust, looks like never been hit, left side was keyed, repainted Maroon in the 70's. 20-footer paint. Seats, carpet, door panels replaced. Engine never apart. Runs and drives fine. My friend bought from 2nd owner who's had is since 1974. In the Modesto CA area entire time. The last photo cracks me up. I assume the emblem has been in this position for 30+ years.

Yes, both sides should be running forward. M code for the engine?
My lic plate starts with YLE so his was built/registered a bit later than me.

Yes, I verified it is an M code. (Larry, of all people, bought it.)
 
We used to buy all our cars from G&W Ford. I hadn't thought of that name in quite some time. Looks like a good deal, I am curious as to where it was hidden John.
 
Looks like both Mustang emblems are backwards. Very nice, I would have pulled the trigger on this one.

63A is a standard interior SportsRoof. 63B is a deluxe interior SportsRoof, including GTs. Initial production of the Mach 1 had the 63B body code. Later in the production year (or half year since the Mach 1 was a mid year introduction IIRC) Ford assigned the 63C code to the Mach, so a real Mach 1 could be either a 63B or a 63C depending on it's date of manufacture. If it's an M code then it should be a 4V 351W and not a 2V as stated in the original post (that's an H code). That's significant since the H code cars had a lower compression ratio (9.5) by virtue of dished pistons. The M code cars had flat tops with a cr of around 10.7. Unlike the Clevelands, converting to a real 4V configuration was a lot more involved than just switching heads and intake.
