Having Mustang trouble. It statred out the power tour and got worse today.

When I try to start the mustang, it starts and then dies after I let off the starter. After a while (untill now) it has eventually started. Need some hints of where to look.

Lucky we checked innto a hotel that a Ford Dealership is next door. If I can not figure it out tonight, then maybey the dealership can tomorrow.
 
Look to see if the main power feed to the ign.. switch is loose or a main harness connection at the firewall. On my 66 this wire is black/yellow. Your switch could be going bad also. What you are describing sounds like this wire is loosing connection somewhere or the switch is bad. It goes to the switch.

I will try to add this 68 wiring diagram for you. It looks like the wire is black/yellow.

Look for wire #37. I couldn't post the diagram but I got the link to go. Good luck.
That wire should start out at the left side of the solonoid.
 
The 68 i used to own did that & it was something internal in the key switch. Also had a 85gt that had the same problem. New ign switch solved it.

When I first got Midlife in 1998, it did the same thing. I traced the problem to a bad connection at the starter motor: it was drawing so much current that when the key was released, the battery did not have enough voltage to keep the car running. Unfortunately, the bolt on the starter was buggered, so I had to get a new starter.
 
Where HOME! 2718 miles. Thanks for the help. Was able to start the Mustang this morning and at the gas fill ups with little problems. Picked up a new ignition switch at Dallas Mustang before we got home.
 
Nothing worse than getting stuck on the road with the dreaded electrical or major mechanical problem. Glad to hear that you made it back to TX. We drove the 69 to Birmingham for the 45th anniversary. Put 5200+ miles on the car and it got through without a mechanical problem. I did blow a tranny a couple of years ago in my 69 Corvette about 350 miles from home in Paso Robles, CA. Fortunately, I was able to hook up with an old car buddy there and he found me a transmission repair shop. It wasn't cheap, but I was dumb lucky. Stranded sucks.
