Vent window frames replated - oh yeah!!!

Craig do you have that thin little piece of rubber weatherstripping that goes along the bottom outside edge? I have it in the repro but I can't find them in the NPD catalog.

NPD #22280-1a. I have two sets. I guess it was a single item, not knowing there are two in a package.

Justin, I'm going to practice riveting later today.

Thanks that was them! I am going to place an order today for some new seals so they will be ready for me when I get back from my trip.

Come June 20, 2010 I am going in to high gear! I want to take my car to MITM.

Brian,
Which one is broken? left or right? I can get them pretty cheap out here. Is this for a 66?

I want to say driver side, but to be honest, it's been so long since I've looked at those parts, I can't remember. I'll have to go out to the barn and look. It is for a '66.

That would be me!

I can attest to both items, careful what you pay for with Chrome, cheap chrome is just that. Not related to the vent frames but tried for bargain chroming and ruined parts.

As for the repro frames, they actually look good but I don't like the fit with the window curve. I plan on selling them when done as they are great for many people but I am trying to go for top quality. I paid $350 to have my originals replated and they do look amazing!

Actually, I thought it was me. Add me to the list. Fortunately only one of the repros was installed and we stopped there.

Craig, what was the turnaround time on those vent frames?

Wow, those look great Criag. I was of the mind just to get the repros, but this makes me change my mind. I have one that I can rechrome, but the other is broke. Guess I'll have to run down one and find a plater closer than CA.

Brian, let me know which side you need. I've got spares.

Stanfix, I spoke to a few of you at the Modesto Car show last month and was directed here to get info on putting my car back together.

The re-chrome job on the vent windows looks great. Has anyone here powder coated the vent window frames? I hear heating pitted metal releases gasses and causes bubbles in the powder coat.

I was thinking of heating the pitted frame then laying down a high heat primer, sanding smooth and taking in for powder coating. Not sure if my theory will work.

I think I remember briefly meeting you while you were chatting with Jeff who owns the burgundy 67 fastback? If so, welcome to the fix. Since I have no experience powder coating vent windows, I don't know how it would turn out. I also question how it would look.

To me for vent windows, they should be very chromy looking.

Craig

BTW, what town are you located in?

your theory wont work. powdercoating works similar to chrome plating where the part needs to be able to conduct an electrical charge for the powder to stick evenly. there is a special 2 part filler that can be used to fill pits. i would suggest talking with your powdercoater before doing anything & he can tell you what it is they use.

BTW, I was saddened but proud to see both Johnpro and Sam had chimed into this post. Miss their words of wisdom, big time.

Yeah that was me, I spoke to the owner of a burgundy fastback and a blue fastback. I was thinking of going with a silver powder coat on the vent windows to go with the Scott Drake satin chrome door handles I have.

I am located on the outskirts of Fairfield, let me know if the stangfix members will be coming to the Budweiser Car Show (Sep. 28th) or the Downtown Napa Car Show (Aug. 18th). I don't have my car done but I plan on going to both.

Owner of the burgundy fb = JeffTepper. Owner (slacker) of the blue fb = kbmwrs. Still, where in Cali do you preside?
