Getting ready for Winter Project.

Picked up the main component for my winter project today. Swapping out the old technology FMX trans for a 4r70w trans. The FMX served me well, 2006 till now, with 2 Power Tours under its belt but it's time for some new tech.

This trans is out of a 2004 3.8 Mustang, 5500 miles, almost new.
Should be a fun cool winter project.

Looks good, what controller are you planning on going with?

I'll be using the controller from Baumann/US Shift, seems to be a reasonable price for all it does.

Ready to go! Shift kit installed, new outside seals, cleaned and painted. As soon as the temps. Get to cold to drive the Mustang I'll put it up on stands and get working on the install

Well the transmission swap is still going on. I've had it running and things seem to be working good but I need to get it back on the ground and test drive it, that's not happening soon, winter weather. I mounted the trans controller in the glovebox but I wasn't really happy with that. First loosing the use of the glovebox and than it being on the other side of the car, out of reach, so I decided to move it. So much space under the console, why not use it, so that is where it will reside. Easy to read and make adjustments if needed, a perfect fix. I think!

New location in/under console.

With next part of console installed.

With top part of console installed, this part is removable so I can view and make adjustments.

Nice colored gearbox.

Around here, and other places, it happens every year about this time.

That's not the glovebox its the top of the console, the 40+ year old chrome is peeling off in places. I'll peel the rest and paint it black. Its the painted black textured chrome that coming up.

Hi John, this is a pretty cool controller, it should be it costs
enough.
It tells me what gear I'm in on the display, trans temp, speed, volts, it has two different shift programs, trans trouble shooting, I can adjust up shifts and downshifts, shift firmness, light throttle and heavy throttle firmness, speedo output, torque converter lockup plus some others. I probably won't be changing much once I get it setup to my liking but it will be close at hand in case.
You Power Tourer this year?

I said gearbox (transmission) not glovebox, you silly willy

that is pretty slick Larry! I'll never be able to keep up with you now! I will have to stop 2-3 times for gas while you will be in AC just sipping that fuel!!!
Nice work
I guess I at least need to get a 70 gas tank

Most likely not, Grandbaby should be here anyday and I believe Julie will want to send all the time she can with her.

Julie's 2 sisters will be on it though. Kathy and her husband Geoff and Debbie and her son Matt. I hope to be able to at least do a couple days, but we will see as time gets closer. Geoff has a very nice 2013 Camaro.

Got the textured part of the console painted, this is how it will look.
